Fines Policy

General Collection

When a book from the Wilson Library’s general collection is overdue, you will be billed from the 20th day as if it was lost. Until that time there are no daily fines. DVDs, VHS tapes, and books from the Popular Reading collection become billed ten days after their due date. At the time of billing each of these items is charged $100, which includes a $75 replacement fee plus a $15 processing fee and a $10 fine.

When one of these billed items is returned $90 will be credited to your account, leaving the $10 fine. No refund will be given for returning a borrowed item after payment of the replacement fee.

Technology

When a laptop, netbook, or iPad is overdue, you will be billed from the 20th day as if it was lost. Until that time there are no daily fines.

At the time of billing:

  • Laptops will be charged $500
  • iPads  will be charged $500
  • Netbooks will be charged $250

When one of these billed items is returned the fine will be adjusted to $20.

No refund will be given for returning a borrowed item after payment of the replacement fee.

Hourly Reserves

Hourly reserve items are charged $1 for every hour they are overdue.

Daily Reserves

Daily reserve items are charged $5 for every day they are overdue.

LINK+

Link+ items are charged $1 for every day they are overdue. On the fifteenth day they are charged $115, which includes a $75 replacement fee plus a $25 processing fee and a $15 fine. Link+ fines accrue for all students, staff, and faculty. This is a non-negotiable condition of the Wilson Library’s participation in the Link+ consortium.

When a billed Link+ item is returned $100 will be credited to your account, leaving the $15 fine. No refund will be given for returning a borrowed item after payment of the replacement fee.

Interlibrary Loan

Items lent through Interlibrary Loan are charged $1 for every day they are late.

Replacements

Please contact Circulation staff to discuss whether you may purchase a replacement copy for a lost or damaged book. If approved, the replacement copy must be brought to the Circulation Desk within two weeks of the billing date and be new. If the replacement copy is accepted, the $75 replacement fee will be credited to your account. However, the $10 fine and $15 processing fee will remain on your account.

The Library will not accept replacements for lost or damaged DVDs or VHS tapes purchased by its users. Replacement copies of lost items owned by other libraries may be acceptable at the discretion of those libraries.

Account Holds

Please note if your balance equals $100.00 or more, and/or a borrowed item has not been returned, you will be placed on financial and transcript hold at the University of La Verne. This hold will only be lifted when all unreturned items are returned (or replaced if that permission has been granted), or, if there are no outstanding borrowed items, when at least 50% of the fine total is paid AND this payment brings the fine balance total to less than $100.00. Also, you will not be allowed any check outs if your library fines exceed $25.00.
