Borrowing Policies at the Wilson Library

Circulation Desk Hours

Circulation Desk services are available whenever the library is open. All materials should be checked out prior to closing time.

Library Cards

The La Verne ID card is your library card. La Verne students, faculty and staff are required to have La Verne picture ID card to check materials out. ID cards can be obtained at Woody Hall.

Holding an Item for Checkout

Placing a hold on Wilson Library materials that are currently checked out may be done by a patron through the library website. (The option appears on the webpage displaying the individual item.) Once that item is returned and checked back in, you will receive an email-notification and the item will be kept on hold for pick up for 7 days.
Placing a hold on library materials that are currently available may only be done by calling the library (909-448-4301). The item will be kept on hold for pick up for 7 days.

Overdue Notices

The library emails courtesy reminders, overdue notices and fine notices. These notices are sent only to La Verne email accounts.

You will receive:

  • A courtesy notice 3 days before your library books or videos/DVDs are due.
  • A second notice reminding you that your library items are overdue 10 days after the item was due.
  • A bill for the item(s) 20 days after the item was due. (For more information on billed items, see the Fines Policy).

Any questions? Call the library Circulation Department at (909) 448-4301

Recalls

Wilson Library guarantees an initial loan period of 35 days for books. After this time, books may be recalled for another patron.

Fines

General Collection

When a book from the Wilson Library’s general collection is overdue, you will be billed from the 20th day as if it was lost. Until that time there are no daily fines. DVDs, VHS tapes, and books from the Popular Reading collection become billed ten days after their due date. At the time of billing each of these items is charged $100, which includes a $75 replacement fee plus a $15 processing fee and a $10 fine.

When one of these billed items is returned $90 will be credited to your account, leaving the $10 fine. No refund will be given for returning a borrowed item after payment of the replacement fee.

Hourly Reserves

Hourly reserve items are charged $1 for every hour they are overdue.

Daily Reserves

Daily reserve items are charged $5 for every day they are overdue.

LINK+

Link+ items are charged $1 for every day they are overdue. On the fifteenth day they are charged $115, which includes a $75 replacement fee plus a $25 processing fee and a $15 fine. Link+ fines accrue for all students, staff, and faculty. This is a non-negotiable condition of the Wilson Library’s participation in the Link+ consortium.

When a billed Link+ item is returned $100 will be credited to your account, leaving the $15 fine. No refund will be given for returning a borrowed item after payment of the replacement fee.

Interlibrary Loan/ILLiad

Items lent through interlibrary loan but not via Link+ are charged $1 for every day they are late.

Replacements

Please contact Circulation staff to discuss whether you may purchase a replacement copy for a lost or damaged book. If approved, the replacement copy must be brought to the Circulation Desk within two weeks of the billing date and be new. If the replacement copy is accepted, the $75 replacement fee will be credited to your account. However, the $10 fine and $15 processing fee will remain on your account.

The Library will not accept replacements for lost or damaged DVDs or VHS tapes purchased by its users. Replacement copies of lost items owned by other libraries may be acceptable at the discretion of those libraries.

Account Holds

Please note if your balance equals $100.00 or more, and/or a borrowed item has not been returned, you will be placed on financial and transcript hold at the University of La Verne. This hold will only be lifted when all unreturned items are returned (or replaced if that permission has been granted), or, if there are no outstanding borrowed items, when at least 50% of the fine total is paid AND this payment brings the fine balance total to less than $100.00. Also, you will not be allowed any check outs if your library fines exceed $25.00.

Book Search Request

If an item in La Verne Books & Media catalog is listed as available but cannot be found on the shelves, circulation staff will search shelves for the item over a period of 3 days. Forms are available at the Circulation Desk. Patron will be notified as to the status of the item.
